Billionaire Bloomberg’s back trying to buy Colorado politics

DENVER (October 28, 2013)— Compass Colorado today reacted to the news that New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his friends Bill and Melinda Gates gave a million dollars each to the nearly billion dollar-a-year tax increase known as Amendment 66:

“Billionaire New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg should have realized by now that he can’t buy Colorado politics, but apparently he can still rope his friends in to try to flood the landscape with out-of-state money,” said Kelly Maher, executive director of Compass Colorado.

Gov. John Hickenlooper just sent out a quote praising the Bloomberg donation the same month he told USA today he was sick of out-of state money meddling in Colorado’s political affairs:

“Colorado is a state that people like to be themselves and solve their own problems. They don’t really like outside organizations meddling in their affairs.”

“Gov. Hickenlooper’s hypocritical comments are just yet another example of his inability to take a firm stand on any issue,” continued Maher. “One minute he is against out-of-state political money, but if it’s for his billion dollar tax hike baby, then it’s praiseworthy.”
