DENVER — This afternoon, Democrats on the House State, Senate and Veterans Affairs Committee voted against protecting the integrity of Colorado’s elections. In a 5-4 vote, liberal legislators killed a bill by Rep. Don Coram, R-Montrose, that would simply require those individuals registering to vote on or immediately before Election Day to show photo identification.

Kelly Maher, executive director of Compass Colorado, released the following statement regarding the bill’s demise:

“Today’s vote proves that House Democrats simply do not care about the integrity of our elections. Recent polls show the vast majority of Americans, including registered Democrats, support requiring voters to prove who they are before casting a ballot. If we require individuals to prove who they are before getting on a plane or writing a check, then we should provide those same protections to safeguard our elections as well.”
