Supplemental bill to clear backlogged rape kits unanimously passes House

Home/All/Supplemental bill to clear backlogged rape kits unanimously passes House
DENVER (March 4, 2015) – After weeks of pressure from House and Senate Republicans as well as outside groups like Compass Colorado, Speaker Dickie Lee Hullinghorst finally allowed a supplemental funding bill that would clear the backlog of untested rape kits and fund the state toxicology lab to come to a vote in the House, where it passed unanimously.

“We’re pleased that the Speaker finally put aside her political gamesmanship to allow the important work of the legislature to actually move forward,” said Kelly Maher, executive director of Compass Colorado. “I think Coloradans should ask themselves why she allowed this critical issue to languish for so long. It passed unanimously, so it’s clear she was being an unnecessary obstructionist.”
